A hardy perennial with rosy-purple flowers in late summer on strong upright stems, very attractive to bees, birds and butterflies.  Easy to grow and requires no staking. Will not tolerate wet soil in winter. Tuberous roots can make soothing tea, or used to make a gargle for a sore throat. Prefers a spot in moderately fertile moist, well-drained soil with full sun.
