‘Summer Cascade’ develops a gracefully weeping habit, with slender branches arching outward before cascading downward in layered tiers. Foliage is a dark green through spring and summer, transitioning to clear yellow in autumn before leaf drop. The bark on younger growth is pink to orange-brown and peels in papery layers to reveal a lighter cream-white surface beneath, while on older stems and trunks it matures to red-grey-brown and eventually to a deep, near-black tone. This evolving bark display provides year-round visual interest, including through the bare winter months when the branch structure is fully exposed.

It is considerably more adaptable than many other birch species, performing well across a range of soil conditions including clay soils and periodically wet or poorly drained sites. It tolerates full sun through to partial shade and, once established, demonstrates reasonable drought tolerant
